Mazatlan, Mexico

It’s still bloody hot but we are learning to survive… We’ve been in Mazatlan for a few days now, staying in a cheap RV camp, and today we are leaving for Puerto Vallarta.

Mazatlan is quite touristy but it seems that the season hasn’t started properly yet, you can see an American only now and then J The old town is very pretty and cozy, with narrow little streets and palm trees, and houses with balconies and inner patios with fountains.

And yes, we have finally swum in the ocean! It’s warm and good for surfing (so you can’t really swim in it…).

Travel experiences:

We want to buy a new map of Mexico, as the one we have is not so much detailed and some smaller places are not in there. We ask at the gas stations where they either don’t have it or usually have it only not now, we asked at a hotel and they sent us to a stationery shop so we went to a stationary shop in a small shopping mall where they told us they don’t have any but the other stationary just outside will surely have what we are looking for. So we went to the other shop and the lady said yes, they had maps. Hooray! And do you want with or without names? What?? Well, with names, then..? OK, and how many do you want? What???? And then she brought an A4 (letter size) piece of paper with a black and white map of Mexico. So we are still looking…

Other experience:

The other day we were looking for a smaller town that should have a camp according to the map. First we couldn’t find the town as the signs here are not so good, then we couldn’t find the camp, and when we asked somebody they sent us to another town nearby where a camp should be. This town wasn’t in our map and with the quality of the signs again, we got lost. We arrived in some small town in the middle of nowhere and asked about a camp in a local corner shop. They didn’t know about any but there was an older couple there that offered us to go with them and spend the night in their place. Thank you once again, Trini and Maria, for everything!

Pořád je strašně horko, ale učíme se to přežít… Na pár dní jsme se zastavili v Mazatlánu, kde bydlíme v levném RV kempu, a dneska vyrážíme dál, do Puerto Vallarta.

Mazatlán je docela turistické městečko, ale zdá se, že sezona ještě úplně nezačala, Američany vidíte jen tu a tam J Staré centrum je útulné, s úzkými uličkami, palmami a domy s kovovými balkonky a vnitřním atriem s fontánkou. Jo, a taky jsme se konečně vykoupali v oceánu! Je jak kafe a hodí se na surfování (na plavání až tak ne…).

Zážitky z cest:

Chceme si koupit novou mapu Mexika, protože ta co máme, není až tak podrobná a některá menší města na ní nejsou. Ptáme se na benzinkách, kde je buď nemají nebo je mívají, ale zrovna teď nejsou, ptali jsme se v hotelu, kde nás poslali do papírnictví, takže jsme šli do papírnictví v jednom menším nákupním středisku. Tam nám řekli, že mapy nemají, ale venku že je ještě jedno papírnictví a tam mapu určitě budou mít. Tak jsme šli tam a paní říká, že ano, že mají mapy. Hurá! A chcete se jmény nebo bez? Cože?? Tak teda asi se jmény..? Dobře, a kolik jich chcete? Cože???? A pak paní přinesla papír A4 s černobílou mapou Mexika. Tak hledáme dál…

Jiný zážitek:

Jednou jsme hledali menší město, ve kterém by podle mapy měl být kemp. Nejdřív jsme nemohli najít to město, protože místní značení nestojí za moc, pak jsme nemohli najít kemp, a když jsme se někoho zeptali, poslali nás do jiného městečka poblíž, kde by nějaký kemp měl být. Tohle městečko už na naší mapě nebylo a po cestě nebyly cedule, takže jsme se ztratili. Dojeli jsme do nějaké vesnice uprostřed ničeho, kde jsme se zeptali v místním obchůdku. O kempu sice nic nevěděli, ale byl tam starší pár, který nám nabídl, ať přespíme u nich. Ještě jednou díky za všechno, Trini a María!
